"This is it," Clara murmured, spinning slowly in the center of the living room, taking it all in. The house had been vacant for years, but now, finally, the renovation was complete. It was perfect. She had imagined this moment for months, and now she was here, bathed in the warmth of the setting sun. She grinned, a genuine, wide smile.

She had always been fascinated by hidden compartments, secret passages. Investigating the dusty, cluttered storage space beneath the stairs seemed the appropriate next step.
